2011 DATES, THEMES & FRIDAY FINALE EVENTS

The following information describes our weekly field trips and events for our four through seven year old campers.  Our eight through twelve year olds campers will be choosing their own interest areas each Monday and will particiapte in their Focus Area activities Tuesday - Thursday.  For the 8-12 year old weekly Focus Area offerings, please see below.

Four-Seven Year Olds:

Week 1 June 13-17 "Incredible Edibles" - A week of fun with food, campers don your aprons and chef hats and let's get cookin'!  Campers will take a trip to The Finishing School where they will get a hands on cooking (and eating) experience.  Friday Event: A morning visit from the Green Urban Lunch Box (a school bus converted into a growing green house) to teach us about growing our own food and eating healthy.  We will get down and dirty in the afternoon during our Fun-with-Food Relays! 

Week 2 June 20-24 "Art Attack" - Create and explore, a week of hands on art activities.  We will be visiting the Kids Art Yard at the Utah Arts Festival where painted faces and "Mad Hats" are always a hit!  Friday Event: take a Journey Around the World with us to experience the arts and cultures accross the world.

Week 3 June 27-July 1 "Carnival Days" - Join us for our annual SummerWorks 4th of July Carnival where campers get to "dunk" their counselors and offer them a whip cream pie-n-the-face!  Campers will get to let loose and bounce themselves silly at "Jump Around Utah."  Friday Event:  4th of July Carnival

*Week 4 July 5-8 (no camp Monday, July 4) "Fairy Tales & Dragon Scales" a week of make believe and imagination - Come dressed in your favorite costumes this week and let your imaginations run wild.  The field trip this week will be to The King's English Bookstore to see just how characters and stories come to life.  Friday Event:  Storytelling Extravagnaza!  Campers will experience the art of live storytelling and will have the opportunity to act out a story as it is told.  

Week 5 July 11-15 "Wet & Wild" - Cool off with us as we explore and play in the wacky world of water.  We will be taking a hike to Donut Falls where we will picnic and enjoy the outdoors.  Wear your swim suits all week and come ready for some wet 'n wild fun times!  Friday Event:  All camp trip to Seven Peaks (new Salt Lake location-previously Raging Waters). 

Week 6  July 18-22  "Disco Fever" - Get down and boogie with us this week.  The 4 and 5 year olds are headed to move, grove and make music at Imagination Place.  The 6 and 7 year old campers will get down and boogie on roller skates and scooters at Classic Fun Center.  Your campers will get a taste of the 70's, from disco to tye-dye.  Friday Event: A dance and drumming workshop with Samba Fogo and a dance party complete with a karaoke machine!  Just dance, dance, dance...

*Week 7 July 26-29 (no camp Monday, July 25th) "Serve It Up" a week of community building and service - Field trips and Friday event will be announced soon...stay tuned.

Week 8 Aug 1-5 "Planes, Trains & Automobiles" - It's a bird, it's a plane, it's a...come and learn about transportation this week.  Our field trip will take us to the LifeFlight Operations Center at the SLC airport where we will tour a rescue plane and helicopter.  Pediatric LifeFlight nurses will teach us why these aircraft are unique and so important.  Bricks4Kidz will make a visit to SummerWorks to do a lego workshop on transportation, allowing our campers to build a "mobile" of their ownFriday Event: SummerWorks 2nd Annual Bike Rodeo! This event will teach your campers the rules of the road and will allow them to practice on their own bikes as they ride through our bike safety course.  Campers, bring your bikes and helmets this Friday!

Week 9 Aug 8-12 "Lights, Camera, Action" -   To celebrate the summer, our 4 and 5 year olds will spend the afternoon at This Is The Place, where they will ride the train, visit the animals, have the chance to take a pony ride, pan for gold and make a craft.  They will picnic and party at the pavilion after their tour.  Our 6 and 7 year olds will party at Boondocks Family Fun Center where they will have the opportunity to play miniature golf, laser tag, go-karts, and bumper boats.  Friday Event:  A week of celebration and performance.  It's time to shine - all of the hard work prepping and rehearsing for our SummerWorks play and Lip Syncs will pay off this week.  Please come out and support our campers as they perform in this summer's SummerWorks Play and Lip Syncs.  Following the performances, join us for our summer's end slide show and eat ice cream galore.  Parents, siblings, friends and neighbors are all welcome and encouraged to attend.  See you all there!

Eight - Twelve Year Olds - Focus Area Offerings:

The Monday of each week our eight to twelve year old campers will have the opportunity to choose their Focus Area for the week.  They will be able to choose from:  Sport, Outdoor Adventures/Environmental Explorations (EE), and Arts/Cultures.  *All activities and trips listed below are subject to change.

Week 1 June 13-17

Sport - Fencing with the Utah Swords Academy  Art - no Art Focus offered this week  Outdoor - Snow Safety/Avalanche Awareness with the Utah Avalanche Center & Snowbird

Week 2 June 20-24

Sport - Golf with TGA  ART - Perspective Drawing Workshop & Arts Festival with Rowland Hall's Ms. Czar  Outdoor - Rockclimbing (outdoors) with SPLORE

Week 3 June 27-July1

Sport - TBD  ART - Sewing & Textiles with Angela Flicker from The Artists' House  Outdoor - Teambuilding High Ropes, Canoeing with SPLORE, **Rafting Trip option with SPLORE

*Week 4 July 5-8 (no camp Monday, July 4th)

Sport - Lacrosse with team members from the U of U lacrosse team  ART - Sewing & Textiles with Angela Flicker from The Artists' House  Outdoor - Search and Rescue

Week 5 July 11-15

Sport - Basketball  ART - TBD  Outdoor - **Teambuilding High Ropes overnighter to YMCA Camp Roger!

Week 6 July 18 - 22

Sport - Golf with TGA  ART - TBD  Outdoor - Rockclimbing (outdoors) with SPLORE

*Week 7 July 26-29 (no camp Monday, July 25th)

Sport - Soccer  ART - TBD  Outdoor - **Backpacking trip to the High Uintas

Week 8 August 1-5

Sport - Flag Football & Rugby  ART - TBD  Outdoor - Mountain Biking & Bike Education/Maintenance with the SLC Bike Collective

Week 9 August 8-12

Sport - TBD  ART - TBD  Outdoor - Sailing with The Bonneville School of Sailing
