INTERNS

SummerWorks Internship

At SummerWorks, we believe that you have fun at camp, no matter what age you are! Summertime is valuable; it's a time to relax, make connections with friends, and have fun. As a young adult, it's also a great time to grow professionally and independently, which is where our internship comes in handy.

What will I learn as an Intern?

As an intern, you'll learn the ins and outs of becoming a future camp counselor. Professional development opportunities include:
  • Food Handler Permit Certified (at our expense!)
  • Social & Emotional Health for Campers
  • Learning how to handle staff to staff disagreements
  • Learning how to handle camper to camper conflicts and disagreements
  • Professionalism in the workplace
  • Activity & Curriculum Development

How old do I have to be to be an intern?

Our intern program is designed for 15 & 16 year olds. Those who have completed 2 summers as a LIT will also be considered.

Will completing an internship give me a better chance at full time employment at SummerWorks?

Yes, absolutely!

Do I receive anything upon completion of my internship?

Yes! You'll receive an official certificate of completion, a stipend, a food handler permit, and SO much experience in the education field.

2021 Intern Program Details

We'll be accepting 6 interns for our SummerWorks 2021 program. In order to complete your internship, you will need to work a minimum/maximum of 3 weeks, ideally consecutive, throughout the summer. We do not offer our intern program during the first or last week of camp.

Our interns work half days, from 9am-1pm Monday-Thursday, with the option of working a full day on Fridays to help with our all camp Friday event. Each week that you work, you'll be teamed with a different age group and mentor so that you can gain the experience of working with a variety of ages, personalities, and staff. Your days will be somewhat structured with the guidance of our Intern Program Coordinator, but you'll also get many opportunities to work directly with the campers. In order to receive your certificate of completion, you'll need to complete a final project of creating and facilitating a game/activity/project for the age group of your choice.

Intern Hiring Guidelines

  • We are only accepting 6 interns for the 2021 camp season, there is a chance that if you apply, you may not get accepted.
  • We may take priority over brand new interns who have yet to have the opportunity interning for SummerWorks.
  • Upon applying, you'll be asked to come in and meet with the Directors for a formal interview.
  • Summer staff employment and internships are at will, meaning you may be terminated by SummerWorks administration at anytime, upon default in the performance of your obligations.

Sounds great! How do I apply?
  • Send a cover letter and a current resume to summerworksadmin@rowlandhall.org. In your letter, please make sure to mention the skills that you can bring in as an intern, and what you're most excited about if you were to get this opportunity.
