The application deadline to apply to be a 2010 SummerWorks Counselor In Training (CIT)Intern has passed. CIT internships for this summer have been awarded. Congratulations 2010 SW CIT Interns and welcome to the Summerworks Team!
Join the SummerWorks team this summer by being a CIT intern! The CIT internship is an opportunity for you to participate as a team member with our camp staff, to learn and practice strategies to engage children safely and supportively in a recreation setting, to build relationships, and to develop and practice valuable leadership and recreation skills. Highlights of this summer’s CIT internship include: CIT/staff mentor pairings, CIT group service project, weekly field trips with your campers, weekly CIT skill-development workshops, an overnight backpacking trip in the Wasatch mountains, CPR/First Aid certification, and of course, many afternoons having fun in the sun with your campers at the pool!

OverView:
CIT Training:
CITs will complete an initial orientation (dates TBA) and CPR/First Aid certification prior to the start of camp. Additionally, interns will have the opportunity to serve as the CIT representative at weekly staff meetings. Each CIT will be paired with a senior staff mentor who will provide on-going support and guidance throughout their experience.
CIT/staff mentor pairings:
Interns will be paired with a senior staff mentor who will offer guidance and support to each intern throughout the summer. Together, the pair will formulate an initial purpose statement outlining their purpose and role as a pair for their summer. Additionally, during the first weeks of camp, each CIT/mentor pair will create personal and professional goals to guide them throughout their internship and in their mentor/mentee relationship. Each week, they will participate in a reflection activity, reflecting on the successes and challenges of the current week and preparing for the upcoming week.
Weekly Skill Development Workshops:
Interns will participate in weekly skill development workshops. The workshops will be skill-based, facilitated by the SummerWorks Assistant Director or by professionals from the community. Focus areas include: responsibility, leadership, recreation, and outdoor skills. The purpose of these workshops will be to equip the interns with additional, specific skills to assist them during their summer at SummerWorks and in their personal and professional pursuits outside of camp. After completing skills in each focus area, interns will work collaboratively to execute a “culminating project” using their newly attained skills. Workshops will be held both on and off campus.
